Thanks for following along with my Capsule Wardrobe Series! If you’ve been following along, then you are now ready to shop! The hard work of planning and purging and trying everything on is now past us and we are now going to start adding items to our closet. This post contains affiliate links, please see my disclosure for more information.
But first, let’s go back to those items that didn’t quite fit the way you want. Before you start buying more and adding to your wardrobe, you want to go through these pieces and have them tailored to fit. A good tailor can make anything more flattering (I even have my bikinis tailored, I talk about that here). This is especially important if you have work wear, having your slacks tailored or your shirts brought it can really make something go from frumpy to fabulous. This can be expensive though, so consider the price of the piece before spending a fortune having it fit better. Tailoring is probably best left to real staple pieces that are quality items that you will keep with you for a long time and wear season after season.
Now that you have that done, review your capsule item list and figure out what you need. You may want to just run out to the mall (or stay in and shop online at home) but ideally you wait until these items are out of season (so you can get the best deals) or shop a good sale weekend. You may need to consider several retailers to find what you need. I’ll share below some of my favorite retailers for specific items.
Okay, who doesn’t love Target? I used to never buy clothes there aside from basic t-shirts (these are my absolute favorites) and pajamas. But now I have a lot of items (including shoes) and I’m often impressed by the quality. There are definitely good deals to be had and their maternity section is also really good.
Express is my go-to retailer for jeans. They consistently fit great and go on sale often. Express also is a great option for suiting, their dress pants and blazers are always good options. I also have a lot of dresses from Express, great for weddings!
H&M is another great option for suiting, back in my office days I had many great office dresses from H&M. I also like H&M for seasonal pieces as I like to buy those at a low price point because they will likely not be living in my closet for years and years. I also love their kids clothes!
I personally do not like Old Navy jeans (although I know so many do!) but I do like their athletic wear and seasonal pieces. Old Navy is also a great option for a well prices Chambray or denim jacket.
I love their sales and they do also have jeans that I love.
This is not somewhere that I would imagine telling people that I shop, but I have been finding more and more pieces that I love here. This is definitely a more casual retailer, but I do love their jean shorts, boyfriend jeans, and casual tops.
Ok, so I do hope this has been helpful! I recommend buying everything you think you need but don’t tear off the tags until you get to the next step (The Planning) which we will cover next week.
