Like most parents, Brad and I read to Sweetie every night before bed. We also read to her throughout the day, it has become one of her favorite past times. As a result, she has acquired a large selection of books. Although we rotate them throughout the house, she still has favorites that we read over and over again. We also have our favorites that we try to get her to pick too, sometimes with success even!
I decided to put together this short list of books we love because not all books are created equally. These are books we have purchased in 2017, that have remained in our heavy rotation. Four of these books I absolutely love; they have great messages and beautiful artwork. Then there is Sweetie’s absolute favorite book which I had to include at the end for her sake. Filled with adorable illustrations, Love Is tells the story of a young girl and her duckling while describing all the things that love is. I love the humor of describing the challenging parts of raising a duckling (or toddler) and the story is just too cute not to love.
A spin off from Dr. Seuss’ classic, this heartwarming book includes adorable artwork which Sweetie just can’t get enough of. Honestly, I think I prefer this version over the classic. (Sorry, Seuss)
Raising an only child makes me acutely aware of how we could spoil her to a point of ruin. So, we try to incorporate messages of thankfulness wherever possible. It’s all a part of not raising her to be an asshole, and I guess we will find out in 20ish years whether it worked.
This is the only book we have from this series, but I love it and will probably buy more. It tells the story of Coco Chanel from her childhood to how she became the legendary fashion icon. What’s not to like?
Sweetie’s favorite book for 2017 is Lyle Walks the Dogs. This books hits all the marks with repetition and counting, plus dogs and of course lovable Lyle. Together, these make this a classic keeper.
